Platamonas & Pieria
A hidden paradise at the foot of Mount Olympus
Platamonas is a seaside resort in south Pieria, Central Macedonia, with 2,197 permanent inhabitants. It combines beautiful beaches, crystal waters and the tallest mountain in Greece.
Its name comes either from the platan trees or from the broad sandy beaches. Above the town stands the Venetian Castle of Platamon, its most famous landmark.
Platamon is linked to Katerini and Larissa by bus and train. In summer the population reaches about 140,000 visitors. Some 7 km away lies the traditional settlement of Palios Panteleimonas, loved for its panoramic view, picturesque restaurants and guest houses.
